Okay, so the title's not entirely true because I bought some lunch, but that's it. Time I was not in class was spent either listening to 4minute's new song or thinking about 4minute's new song. I really like 4minute's new song.
This is a bad picture of the school's music club doing music club things. It's like an anime that's pretty popular, so I felt like I should take a picture. As far as I can tell they weren't bad, but I wasn't around for most of it.
Today was also the first day of our Japanese cultural history class. The teacher is an American-born Japanese guy named Mark, and despite his accent when speaking the language, he is a fantastic shamisen player/Kiyomoto singer (that wailing you hear in the back of Kabuki plays). He did an entire song for us, and I was very impressed. He is a kabuki specialist, and as much of my academic writing has involved kabuki in some way, I'm eager to talk to him about it.
Okay, as promised, here is one of our print club pictures from yesterday. These things are big with teenage girls here. Look closely and you will notice that all of our eyes are HILARIOUS. That's because there is actually a setting that automatically enlarges your eyes by about fifty times their normal size. This isn't one of the ones we edited with cat whiskers and stuff, but it is probably the funniest in terms of faces made, so I photographed it.
So anyway, today after school I hurried home before it started raining like it was supposed to, then my host family went out to do a thing. Funny story: I fell asleep during Sergeant Frog, and when I woke up Hironobu Kageyama and Animetal were performing the theme song to a Naruto spin-off where everyone is drawn tiny and hilarious. It was pretty funny, even though I don't care about Naruto, but the best part was the end. It turns out that the ending theme is by Secret, a Korean girl group that I really like, which was COMPLETELY unexpected. It wasn't even just a song of theirs that was picked for the show; the song was made specifically FOR the show. I don't think that's ever happened for a Korean girl group. I was pleased.
So yeah. That was today.
