Today we went to Chichibu to make udon (a kind of noodle). For some reason, II didn't end up on the sign-up list, but another student canceled at the last minute, so there was a spot open. I will be commenting on the scenery only when necessary, because there was a lot of it. The bus ride there was about an hour.
And here are the noodles when done! There was a lot of kneading and rolling and cutting, and even some stomping. It's not very easy to make udon well. Mine were okay.
This was our water fountain. They had water from the sink, but everyone was eager to try the mountain water.
After the udon, there was enough time left to go to a nearby shrine. Again, the pictures speak for themselves. It was really nice.
At the shrine gift shop, they had "maple cider", which was just maple soda. It tastes exactly what you would think that tastes like, and I'm a little sad I probably won't be able to find it anywhere else.
Here's a mountain on the way back. For some reason the return trip took much longer than the ride there, but there was lots of interesting stuff out the window.
When we got back to school, I just talked to my Japanese friends. I also talked to Sophie for a bit, and Dominik and Evelyn were also there. After that I went home, and there was another party at the cafe, so I ate in there again. I like my host family's friends; they're funny. Even the guy with the cataract and the slicked-back hair that looks like a terrifying Japanese gangster. They're great.
